Totally bummed out? Yeah, I understand, so was I. You never expect it, it just happens. I wonder how many times I was driving drunk and didn't know it. So, you got convicted of driving under the influence. You've been court ordered to take a Florida Traffic School-Driving Under the Influence Level 1 Course,(DUI-1).

Be prepared. This is an intensive course, it will cost you between $225 to $325. The course is 12 hours long, and the DUI-1 course is offered by many Florida Traffic Schools in a classroom format. There are online traffic schools that offer the DUI-1 Course but, you must be pre approved by the court to take one. My DUI attorney said it wasn't worth filing a motion, few are approved. I think my DUI attorney was worth his weight in gold... got the charge reduced to reckless driving. I still had to take the DUI course but, saved me alot of money. My fine was greatly reduced, no jail time and my car insurance rates didn't go up as much as they could have.

The difference between DWI and DUI? The Florida Substance Abuse Laws, Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) blood alcohol level (BAC) .08 or higher or you blew over .08 on the breathalizer. Driving Under the Influence (DUI) BAC .07 and lower or blew under .07. I'm glad that I listened to my friend Pete's advice and got an experienced DUI attorney. My DUI lawyer basically said that the Florida Courts are not recocognizing my difference between DWI and DUI. He said the substance abuse laws were constantly changing and major differences now were fines and jail time.

Before I get into the DUI Level 1 Course outline, I must let you know that you have to pre register for the course. They submit to the state for approval. There are some Florida Traffic schools that will let you register online.

To register for the DUI Level 1 Course you need the following information:

1. Drivers license number
2. Photo ID- Drivers License or Florida ID
3. Complete arrest report
4. Citation
5. Court Orders
4. Blood Alcohol Content test results or refusal affidavit
5. Probation Officer's name, if you were assigned one

You must have all this information or you will waste your time going to get it. The registration takes about an hour so, be prepared time wise.

The Driving Under The Influence Level 1 Course is very detailed and heavy on psycology and changing your driving behavior. The DUI 1 course is lecture based with discussion groups as well as videos and handouts. The course outline is as follows:
